The messed-up mind of an entrepreneur

If anyone told you the startup life is easy, they haven’t experienced it.

So far, BuddingCEOs has had a good start, it’s got a good Facebook Page (BuddingCEOs on Facebook), a clear idea of what we’re building and an awareness among a niche group.

But the cruel fact of life is that, it’s not enough.

Read this for deeper insights into the startup condition and the ups and downs of my own personal journey.

Do start-up ideas have intrinsic value?

startup-ideas

Almost all of us has had that Ah Ha! Moment.

We come up with an idea so brilliant, that instead of sharing it. We only talk to people about it if we’re protected with an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). And even though there is no chance we can implement the ideas on our own, we still believe it has value.

So what do we do?

If it’s a bio-medical idea, we search for that person with the PHD to try to poach them from their high paying jobs to do “free research”.

If it’s a development project, we look for the first programmer we can find and we tell them, because I came up with the idea, let’s do a 75-25 split. That’s only 25% equity for you, but you do all the programming work.

That’s a problem JMarley ran into.

What is Budding CEOs?

Since our launch 1 month ago, I have met many people who are interested in how we intend to engage youths in the pursuit of entrepreneurial and business skills.

We are currently building up an exciting interactive site to create ‘productive connections’ that will immerse youths in the crucial skills they need for their venture; distribution, social media marketing, new media marketing, financial management, raising funds…

We will go very public with our journey in building a community around the Budding CEOs cause, and would love to have you join us in the experience.

We believe in adopting a very open approach to building our company. To get the latest updates, become a fan on facebook, leave your mark at our contact page or join us in a simple conviction and we’ll be happy to tell you about both the ups and downs of building a community of users.

To leave you with something good, learn about the 5 game mechanics for creating engagement by Amy Jo Kim in the slideshare presentation.

Startup lessons from the gym

Startup lessons from the gym

or losing 1.5kg (3.3 lbs) in a two hour gym session (no, not all water loss).

Today, I decided to make my trip to the gym more spectacular. I wanted to push my limits and decided that I would not leave the gym till I burned 1.5kg (or 3.3 lbs). It was almost like the ‘last chance workouts’ made popular by The Biggest Loser.

Through that process, I saw some parallels with the Startup experience that will be useful lessons for Budding CEOs.
